Today the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault and NOW criticized Hull for not properly denouncing the alleged domestic abuse incidents surrounding his 1998 divorce. I.C.A.S.A. even asked him to drop out of the race. With every day that this story lingers, Hull's ad barrage is neutralized and rather than being known as the independent outsider with health care reform he's becoming known as the sketchy domestic abuser. The facts of the incident don't warrant that label, but because the release of the story was handled so poorly by his campaign that's what he's left with. Political consultants get out your notepads and file this one under 'how not to handle a candidate's past misdeeds.' More press coverage here, here and here.
